Learning to eat properly can seem complicated, but when you know where to start, then you are at the beginning of a healthier lifestyle. If you don’t take the time to educate yourself, then it’s easy to make simple mistakes that can turn into poor nutrition. No need to stress over this, however. The tips that follow will give you basic advice that will help you improve your nutrition safely and effectively.

Proper nutrition includes eating plenty of vegetables and fruits each day. The USDA recommends an average of nine to thirteen servings of vegetables and fruits daily. This may seem difficult, but it’s actually easy to pull this off. Drink a glass of orange juice for breakfast of add tomato sauce to your spaghetti.

If you travel a lot, carry a few protein bars or high protein snacks with you. It’s hard to find decent meals in airports. If you are waiting in line at the airport, a protein bar is just what the doctor ordered. Keep a few bars with you just in case you get hungry or need some energy.

Be sure your diet consists of about a quarter whole grains. Eating whole grains will make you healthier than if you stuck to white refined carbs. Switch over to whole wheat pastas, brown rice and whole wheat or seven-grain types of sandwich bread. Processed carbohydrates remove beneficial fiber and nutrients from the foods you are eating.

Beef is high in fat, so using turkey breast that is ground up is a healthier alternative. This will help you reduce the amount of calories and saturated fat in your diet. Be sure that you choose ground turkey breast and not dark meat, as this type of turkey is similar in nutritional content to ground beef. Some ground turkey is a mix of both dark and white meat and you won’t get the same results as pure white meat.

It is not that hard to provide yourself with proper nutrition. A healthier lifestyle makes the education, research and effort it takes to make a nutritious diet worth it. Remembering these tips can help you eat better in a smarter fashion.
